OkChorale Chorus / Vibrato Plugin (AUv3)

OkChorale is an audio effect plugin that functions both as a standalone application and within any AU-compatible host, such as Logic Pro or GarageBand.

Overview

OkChorale offers a stereo chorus and vibrato effect, drawing inspiration from classic analog stomp boxes. While it does not attempt to replicate any specific unit, its processing and features evoke the essence of earlier, simpler musical times. The plugin achieves both chorus and vibrato effects through the modulation of delay times on a processed version of the dry signal, typically ranging from 5 to 20 milliseconds.

Parameters

• Active - Activates or deactivates the effect.
• Rate - Adjusts the modulation LFO frequency between 0.1 and 10.0 Hz. Slower modulation rates generally lend themselves better to chorus effects, while higher rates create more recognizable and natural vibrato.
• Depth - Controls the extent of delay modulation as a percentage of the maximum delay time.
• Mode - Switches between Chorus and Vibrato settings. In Vibrato mode, the base delay time is minimal, with no dry signal in the output. Conversely, Chorus mode features a longer delay time that blends the dry signal with its delayed counterpart. When utilized in stereo, the left and right channels are modulated out of phase to produce an expansive stereo effect. Additionally, the modulation wave shape differs based on the mode: a sine wave is employed in Vibrato mode, while Chorus mode utilizes a rounded triangle wave for a more "analog-like" character.

Despite its straightforward design and limited features, OkChorale demonstrates that effective sound can still be achieved with simplicity.
